Brian McNally of the Washington Times: Capitals defenseman Mike Green knows that the organization could go in a different direction with GM George McPhee and their coaching staff, and that his days with the Capitals could be numbered. Green is entering the last year of his three deal. He’ll make $6.25 million next year with a cap hit of $6.083 million.

Adam Vingan of NBC Washington: (mailbag) Vingan thinks that the Capitals could get some assets back for Mike Green instead of buying him out. If they traded him, it would be because they think the core needs some retooling. It seems unlikely that GM George McPhee and coach Adam Oates return.

Katie Carrera of the Washington Post: Alex Ovechkin said that he would never ask for a trade. Only July 1st his limited no-trade clause kicks in. Each year he lists 10 teams that he would accept a trade too. There has been no indication that Capitals owner Ted Leonsis would consider trading Ovechkin.

Obrana potrebuje posily, pokiaľ Greena vymenia, tak je potrebné aby v tej istej prípadnej výmene išiel nejaký D aj naspäť ku Caps. Bude to posledný rok jeho zmlúvy a svojimi výkonmi nepresvedčil. Na to aby si zaslúžil 6m musí PORIADNE zabrať, takže aspoň bude mať motiváciu.
Jediná zmlúva možno hodná buy-outu je pre mňa Laich. Od toho zranenia má stále problémy a nikto nemôže vedieť, či sa z toho dostane. Pokiaľ nie, tak tu je ešte 3 sezóny 4.5m na krku za stále zraneného 3rd lajnera.
Potom ešte 2m za Erskinea je hodné buy-outu, ale myslím, že on tú zmlúvu podpísal už po konci výluky, takže CBA na neho nie je možné použiť.

Nič nenasvedčuje tomu, že by teraz premýšľali o výmene Ovechkina. Pre tých, čo by ho vymeniť chceli je určite najdôležitejsí nový GM. Nedokážem si predstaviť, že pri McPheem príde taká zásadná zmena.

Pokiaľ vážne odíde Oates a McPhee, tak to ešte s postavením Oviho nič nezmení. Keď však ani potom v najbližších 3-4 sezónach nepríde aspoň nejaký náznak pozitívnej zmeny, tak už nebude na koho iného ukázať prst. Momentálne ide väčšina kritiky na McPheeho, no bez neho na koho? Väčšina fanúšikov Washingtonu argumentuje, že je McPheeho chyba, že nepostavil dostatočne dobrý tím okolo Ovechkina. (V to dúfam aj ja .) Keď po zmenách a novom GM+trénerovi bude všetko také isté...viem si predstaviť, že ho vymenia/on bude chcieť odísť/pôjde do KHL. Hlavné je ale vyhodiť McPheeho, lebo s ním bude stále on ten zlý, aj keď to v skutočnosti bude Oviho chyba.

Podľa mňa sa spolu so Seminom budú do roka, dvoch pakovať. Trochu to znova ovplyvní draftové pozície Rusov ale postoj mladých hráčov nie. Stále chcú všetci hrať v NHL a tak to zostane na veky večné (alebo aspoň desaťročia).

Capitals Announce Changes to Front Office and Coaching Staff

ARLINGTON, Va. – The Washington Capitals will not renew the contract of vice president and general manager George McPhee and have relieved head coach Adam Oates of his duties, majority owner Ted Leonsis and president Dick Patrick announced today.

“George has been a terrific, longtime executive for our franchise, and I’m grateful for his commitment to the Capitals organization for the past 17 years,” said Leonsis. “Under his leadership the Capitals won seven division titles, twice were the top team in the Eastern Conference, earned a Presidents’ Trophy and competed in the playoffs 10 times. He was a highly effective manager who is extremely well regarded within our organization and around the NHL. We have the utmost respect for him and his family and wish them nothing but the very best.

“We are also appreciative of Adam’s efforts and thank him for his devotion, work ethic and contributions to the Capitals the past two seasons. He is a smart, tactical coach who improved the performance of several of our players. He is a Hall of Fame player who we believe will be a longtime coach in the NHL. We will help him in whatever way we are able and wish him well.

This is an important time for our organization, and I feel a change is needed in order to get us back to being a top echelon team that competes for the Stanley Cup.”

Leonsis and Patrick will be available to the media today, April 26 at 4 p.m. in the Verizon Center media room.

Tak teraz sa môžeme (dúfajme) tešiť na lepšie časy.
A aj keď lepšie časy nenastanú, tak aspoň máme znovu vrátenú vieru v lepšie časy .


BTW je od McPheeho pekné, že cez TDL aj napriek neistote práce neurobil nijakú hlúposť. Nový GM bude mať po výmene Erata a Neuvritha veľa cap space a priestor na zmeny.

With the Gretzky and the Caps rumors i thought I would look back at his stint as President of Hockey Ops for Phoenix. First off he hired his agent Mike Barnett as his GM. Second thing that stands out is not one player they drafted in the 2003 Draft played a game in the NHL. They went 0-fer the best draft of this generation.

They had traded their 2003 1st round pick (along with a 2002 second) two years earlier to the Flyers for Damon Langkow. That pick turned out Jeff Carter. Now you might sat that is unfair, Langkow was productive for them (three 50+ point seasons) and you can't tell how good a draft will be two years out. You would be right, except this...Knowing they wouldn't have their first they dealt their second round pick for that year at the deadline in a deal for Brad Ference. The Coyotes finished well out of the playoffs, and Brad Ference was out of the league after 2004. Matt Smaby was taken with that pick, but they could have conceivable gotten Patrice Bergeron or Shea Weber. Now there is no guarantee they take one of those players (they could have taken Vrana like a certain with the next pick), but it is the principal of dealing you second in a deep draft knowing you don't have a 1 and are well out of the playoffs.

Just an example of bad management through the cronies he hired under Gretzky. Why the Caps want him to run the operation in DC is beyond me.

Konečne ste sa zbavili McPheeho a teraz toto? Leonsisovi začalo na staré kolená hrabať?

Teraz uplne vazne, nic horsie uz tomuto teamu Leonsis urobit nemoze. 17 rokov sa tu trapim s McPheem a..toto hadam nie. Gretzkeho ako hokejistu a cloveka respektujem, ale ak mu daju nejaky vyznamny post vo WSH uz nadobro zlomim palicu nad tymto teamom. To bola euforia, som si vazne myslel, ze nic horsie ako McPhee sa nam stat nemoze..ale ako pozeram, Leonsis vie ako dojebavat situaciu

Sú o tom klebety lebo bol cez sezónu na zápase Caps s Leonsisom v lóži, inak nie sú žiadne dôkazy o tom, že by to mala byť pravda.

Vůbec mi do tohoto týmu nesedí. Zrovna že by Ovečkin a spol řešili v prvé řadě defenzívu? nechce se mi věřit.
BTW: Teď bychbyl zvědavý na Erata, jak by pod Trotzem hrál.

In Nashville, our strength was in net and defense. So our team would take the personality of the top players and that was most often on the back end.”

Vzhľadom na tento Trotzov koment si nemyslím, že sa z nich teraz stane zrazu nejaký ultra defenzívny tím. Pri ofenzívnom talente aký bude mať k dispozícii podľa mňa nebude sám Trotz ako coach s 20+ rokmi skúseností chcieť takým štýlom hrať. V dnešnej NHL sa štýlom 100% útok vyhráva zložito. Obrana je dlhodobo jednoznačne najväčším problémom Caps a teraz je príležitosť tento problém fixnúť. Určite si k sebe vezme aj nejakého dobrého asistenta, Jonhansson ako tréner obrancov bol úplný prepadák. Pokiaľ nepríde návrat Hunter hokeja, tak je s väčším zameraním na defenzívu všetko v poriadku .
Jeden z minúsov je jeho opakovaný neúspech v PO, no úplne ideálneho kandidáta sa nájsť nedá.

Je dobré, že ide o skúseného trénera. Caps potrebujú niekoho, kto si získa rešpekt v kabíne a nenechá si skákať po hlave (tým myslím aj Ovechkina).Preto sa mi práve pozdával aj Laviolette. Aj pri ňom by však bolo aj napriek ofenzívnemu štýlu nutné posilniť obranu, Philadelphia mala pri svojom postupe do finále obrovskú oporu v podobe Prongera.

Celkovo by som s prijatím Trotza bol spokojný. Z voľných kandidátov na post HC ide určite o jedného z lepších.

Pokiaľ bude trénerom práve on, tak vzhľadom na spoluprácu v minulosti to vyzerá, že hlavnými kandidátmi na GM sú teraz asi Shero a Fenton.

Ako bolo pisane vyssie, Trotz nie je cisto defenzivny trener a vie robit s tym, co v time ma. Takze neverim, ze by na Oveckina nakladal nejake PK duties a podobne Myslim si prave, ze by z tohto timu vedel urobit velmi konkurencieschopny tim

Na druhej strane (trosku off topic) som zvedavy na Laviho v Nashville. On az taky prisposobivy nie je, tak bude zaujimave sledovat, akym smerom sa Nash vyberie. Ale ma to ulahcene tim, ze tam ma Webera A Rinneho...
